Sunday December 18th
Cádiz is a catholic city, and signs of it are everywhere. There is a large Cathedral in the centre and there seems to be churches at every turn. In case they don’t manage to fit a church into a street they make sure to stick in some visual reminder – a poke to your soul to send you in the right direction. The cathedral Catedral de Santa Cruz de Cádiz is kind of unique in that it belongs to the Diocese of Cádiz and Ceuta. In case you didn’t know it, Ceuta is the Spanish principality in Morocco. It’s about the size of Tralee with fences all around it to keep the natives out (Ceuta, not Tralee….). Not sure if the Bishop of Cádiz has a speedboat to dash between engagements across his turf. I will try and find out.

Here is the view of the Cathedral taken from the Cádiz Promenade.

If you’re more into surfing than suffering then Cádiz is also a good place to visit….Those Atlantic rollers just keep arriving and there are quite a few surf schools that offer classes.

Average sea temperatures in December are around the 14 degrees mark…so it makes it all the easier to get wet.
